During 1966 the well known sidecar racer Colin Seeley entered into the production of racing motorcycles, utilising the AMC 7R and G50 engines housed in a lightweight frame of his own design. Initially the engines were supplied by AMC, however AMC announced that they were ceasing production of the power-plants prompting Colin to purchase the AMC racing department and manufacture his own engines. With the supply of engines now secured the Seeley concern entered a golden period, with Seeley's winning the 1968 and 69 500cc British championships, followed by Tommy Robb securing fourth place in the 1970 World Championship. The growth in interest in Classic Racing saw the Seeley G50, in replica form, emerge once again as front runner. The machine offered was built in 2006 by George Beale with particular attention being paid to reducing the machines weight to a minimum. It features titanium or ergal fastners throughout, the six speed gearbox is housed in a set of magnesium cases and the frame and swinging arm were lightened. The engine utilises a 92mm bore and is equipped with a steep downdraught cylinder head incorporating a modified inlet port. The lubrication system has been modified by containing the oil in a sump mounted to the bottom of the crankcases. Conventional G50 engines feature both feed and return oil pumps but on this engine the oil returns by gravity so the more powerful return pump is used as a feed. Described as being in good condition throughout and weighing little more than a contemporary racing 125, it is one of, if not the lightest, G50's ever built.
