We are very grateful to the vendor for supplying us with the following description: 'This Austin 7 Single Seater Racing Car has been the subject of an exhaustive five-year restoration, with painstaking attention to detail in every respect. Originally built in the late Seventies by previous owner Gordon Gilbert, the aluminium body was blueprinted from 'Number 10', one of the two Austin 7 Twin-Cams in The Donington Collection. The car was then campaigned with the 750 Motor Club. The car has obviously been modified during its career, adopting the latest technology in its time with hydraulic brakes and rack & pinion steering. She is running an original engine and 4-speed gearbox (with remote shift), with a wider Austin Big 7 rear axle. The engine has a splash-fed Phoenix crankshaft and billeted con-rods with racing pistons, and a gas-flowed block with enlarged inlet valves. The car has a new plumbed-in fire system, new battery and electric fuel pump. Beautifully painted by First Place Finish, who paint the F1 McLaren race cars, this race car clearly stands out as an outstanding car of its period and is now ready for the track'.
