Lot details Registration No: AOA 73M Chassis No: UE1S25371 Mot Expiry: Aug 2014
From birth Jaguar's immortal E-Type was available either as a Fixed Head Coupe or two-seater Roadster. Despite the newcomer's chart-topping performance, the engine size was increased from 3.8 to 4.2-litres in October 1964 and, with the change came a sweeter all-synchromesh gearbox, better brakes and more comfortable seats. For 1966, a 2+2 version of the Coupe was added to the range. It was nine-inches longer and featured a more vertical windscreen. The Series III cars were introduced in 1971, virtually all of which were fitted with Jaguar's new 5.3-litre V12 engine. The original wheelbase was discontinued and the revised car offered only as a Roadster or 2+2 Coupe. Production continued until the model was superseded by the XJS in 1975, by which time some 15,000 V12-engined cars had been produced.
`AOA 73M' started life as a left-hand drive export model, but has subsequently been converted to right-hand drive and recently treated to a thorough restoration around what was apparently a rust-free body. Many new parts were fitted, and the Jaguar is now resplendent in fresh Silver paintwork that's complemented by the re-trimmed Wine Red leather upholstery and new Red hood. It rides on new chromed wire wheels shod with equally unused tyres, while a stainless steel exhaust system and Hi Torque starter motor have added to the car's standard specification. The vendor understandably now views the bodywork as `perfect', and the paintwork, interior trim, V12 engine and manual gearbox as `all good'. The odometer of this undeniably striking E-Type currently sits at an unwarranted 44,500 miles and the car comes complete with tax that runs until the end of April and an MOT valid into August. As values of the Series I E-Types head inexorably northwards, good examples of the later cars are becoming increasingly sought after.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
