Honda introduced the first version of the CB125 in 1971 with the model rapidly establishing itself in the market thanks to its good performance, 70 plus mph being possible, combined with excellent reliability as long as the oil was changed on a regular basis and good handling. The engine featured a single over head cam and was built in unit with a five speed gearbox. The first version was rapidly joined by a more sporting alternative typed the S which ran until 1976 when it was in turn replaced by the J model, which confusingly retained the S designation on the side panels. In this form a cable operated disc brake replaced the drum used by the earlier models.
This example has recently been the subject of a full restoration carried out by Classic Bike magazine. The engine and gearbox have been rebuilt and the paintwork was professionally applied. The wheels were stripped with the hubs being refinished prior to new rims being fitted. The brightwork, like the rest of the machine, is described as being in excellent condition. Presented to an exceptional standard throughout it is accompanied by laminated copies of the magazine articles charting the restoration together with a Swansea V5C and an MOT certificate valid until May 2013. An age related registration number could be applied for further enhancing this delightful motorcycle which has only covered 100 miles since the restoration was completed.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
