The first of three generations of Clio Williams was unveiled in 1993 and was a nod to the relationship between Renault and the Williams F1 team to whom Renault was supplying engines. Williams had no involvement in the Clio Williams models, however, which were built by the company's in-house motorsport department and based on the regular 1800cc Clio 16S. The uprates included: a 2000cc version of the engine with bigger valves, different camshaft, exhaust manifold etc that produced 150bhp and drove through a modified JC5 gearbox. The suspension was firmed up and the car featured a wider front track and broader Speedline alloy wheels. The second and third generation versions largely reflected the changes to the standard model range. The total production of all three was 12,100.
This right-hand drive Clio Williams is a third generation example from 1995 and is finished in Monaco Blue with Grey upholstery. The vendor is its fourth keeper and informs us that the hot hatch is to standard specification and has been in regular use throughout its life - its odometer currently displays an unwarranted 102,000 miles. He says the Renault has been "well maintained" and comes with related receipts. He currently describes the bodywork, paintwork, engine and transmission as "excellent" and the interior trim as "excellent/unmarked".
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
