Lot details
Registration No: BOU 87H
Chassis No: AM116.556
Mot Expiry: Sept 2014

Named to celebrate the marque's two Indianapolis 500 victories, the Maserati Indy boasted a race-bred `quad cam' V8 engine, sleek Vignale styling, 150mph-plus performance and four-seater accommodation. Understood to have been resident in Switzerland for many years before being acquired by well-respected German collector Frank Prohl, chassis AM116.556 was extensively restored between 2007 and 2011. Accompanying invoices and photos show that much of the work was undertaken by Michael Maier of Wermsdorf using parts sourced from Bergmann Motorentechnik of Ratingen and OKP Parts & Engineering GmbH of Munich. With the front subframe (complete with engine and gearbox) removed, repairs were made to the underbody, doors and rear wings ahead of a bare metal respray in the Maserati's original metallic green livery. Thoroughly stripped, the `matching numbers' 4.2 litre V8 was treated to new bearings, pistons and gaskets etc, while attention was also paid to the car's suspension, brakes, electrics and clutch. Professionally re-trimmed by Manfred Stieler of Oranienbaum, the four-seater interior features black leather upholstery, dark grey carpets and the preferred `dual binnacle' dashboard (later Indys had a rather plainer fascia). Riding on refurbished alloy wheels shod with fresh Michelin XWX tyres and benefiting from repolished brightwork, the Maserati entered the current ownership some three years ago. Fitted with both power steering and air-conditioning (though, the latter is currently inoperative), chassis AM116.556 has since been UK road registered as `BOU 87H'. Passing its last MOT test on September 11th 2013 with no advisories, the Indy is rated by the vendor as `very good' (bodywork, paintwork, engine, interior trim) or `good' (electrical equipment, five-speed manual gearbox). Said to be `fabulous to drive with a lovely exhaust note', this gorgeous Maserati is accompanied by a DVD showing stages of the engine overhaul, assorted restoration / parts invoices, old DEKRA inspection report (expired May 2013), current MOT certificate valid until September 2014 and historic class (free) road fund licence valid until August 2014.
