Further info:
Allard's J1 was the company's first competition car, 13 of which were built between 1946 and 1948, of which six remain. Three were specially bodied by Galabier Engineering to contest the Rallye International des Alpes, in which the car offered - J273 - was campaigned by Len Parker. It was later owned by Bill Lamb, Captain Morgan Giles, and Mike and Tom Hockenhull. Since being unearthed in a dilapidated state in 1999, its chassis, axles and torque tube have been refurbished, new half-shafts machined and phase two brakes installed. The radiator has been recored and the chassis sits on alloy-rimmed spoke wheels with Allard knock on centres. The sale additionally includes: gearbox; instruments; switches; windscreen; seats; some body panels etc - ie most key components; also drawings, notes and photos of sister car J275 to enable the body to be correctly completed. There is no V5, but the J1 is known to the Allard club.
PLEASE NOTE: Since the catalogue went to press, we have been contacted by the Allard Owners' Club to say that they have not seen Chassis J273 in years. As such, they would want to inspect the sale car at first hand and verify its provenance before authenticating it and / or supporting any application to the DVLA for re-registration as is normal in these circumstances.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
