Lot details Registration No: BHT963J Chassis No: GE71823DL
This delightful-looking take on a 1930s MG J2 was constructed in the early 1980s by John Copperthwait around a 1971 Triumph 13/60 chassis. It was then totally refurbished between 1988 and 1991 by a professional auto engineer, during which the interior was retrimmed in Black by The Aldridge Trimming Company. `BHT 963J' was then yet further improved by its last fastidious owner. Among things he: replaced the single Stromberg carburettor with a pair of SU ones and modified the bonnet to suit; fitted new K&N air filters and ram pipes, sports coil, plugs and points, adapter hubs all round, tonneau cover, mini spot lamps, bonnet straps, Desmo-style period mirrors, thermostat, and flasher unit; replaced the windscreen with aeroscreens; and upgraded the instrumentation. He believes the total mileage to be around 84,000 and says `the Red paintwork is well done and in generally very good condition' and the car `starts, drives, steers and stops very well'.
