Triumph re-entered the 350cc class in 1957 with the introduction of the 3TA or type Twenty One, its first unit-construction model, which was quickly joined by a 500cc version which adopted the famous "Speed Twin" title and was coded the 5TA. In the Meriden tradition the touring models were subsequently joined by sporting variants, the first to undergo the "sports" treatment being the 5TA which was joined by the first unit construction Tiger 100, the T100A during 1959. The equivalent 350 did not make its debut until October 1962 when the Tiger 90 arrived. The "baby" Tiger looked smart, with styling reflected the larger Tiger and went well too, top speed under favourable conditions being a genuine 90mph. The extra performance in comparison to the 3TA was achieved by increasing the carburettor size, raising the compression ratio to 9.0 : 1 and fitting a higher lift camshaft. A siamezed exhaust system, chromium plated headlamp and partial rear emphasised the machines sporting character.
The machine offered is well presented with white paintwork and good brightwork having been restored. It retains the rear "skirt", a feature that is often discarded and is described as being a "good riding bike" by the vendor. A Swansea V5C accompanies it.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
