The Manchester United forward opened a boutique in the town in March 1966, and his presence at the opening triggered great excitement. The Sale Guardian report on the event said many school children took an unofficial 'holiday' to be there. Police were called in to control swarms of teenagers who poured into the shop chanting, screaming and fainting when they caught a glimpse of the football star.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
