Nimrod Racing Automobiles was a partnership formed in 1981 between Le Mans racer Robin Hamilton and the then new Chairman of Aston Martin Lagonda and Pace Petroleum, Victor Gauntlet. The chassis for their new sports racer was designed by Lola's Eric Broadley and the engines prepared by Aston Martin Tickford Ltd. A total of five examples were produced in total - one development car and four to Group C and IMSA specifications. The Nimrods were campaigned extensively on both sides of the Atlantic between 1982 and 1985, with varying results. The model's most memorable achievements were 7th place at Le Mans in 1983 and 3rd overall in that year's World Sportscar Championship. The company was forced to cease trading whilst developing the high-tech carbon fibre C3 for the 1984 season.
Little is on record about the drivetrain-less vehicle being offered. Reputedly manufactured in 1982, it is currently configured as a full-sized Nimrod show car but possesses various components which are seemingly at odds with this purpose (e.g. a front-mounted radiator, brake servos / discs, suspension assemblies and sundry fluid reservoirs). Finished in Red with a range of sponsor decals, its interior is trimmed in black and features a pair of racing bucket seats, full harness seat belts and a hand-held fire extinguisher. The vendor purchased the car from the Panorama Bay Motor Company of Poole, Dorset in September 1995 for the sum of £10,000. Stored for some years, the be-winged fibreglass sculpture still has the makings of a dramatic showpiece. Though, perhaps further research will result in it having a more interesting fate?
