Produced by Toyota as an off-shoot of the globally successful and acclaimed Land Cruiser brand, the Prado, although a full-size 4x4, was to be one of the smaller vehicles within the range. It was introduced in 1990 as the J70, with regular revisions and series updates and is still in production today - now in the fourth-generation J170 series. Part of the Prado’s ethos was to marry the off-road ability afforded by the body-on-frame design with a greater focus towards on-road manners and highway use, unlike its rugged big brother.
The smart and rare first generation J70 on offer today dates from 1992 and is a Japanese specification model imported in 1998. Finished in two-tone green and silver with grey cloth interior upholstery, the Land Cruiser is fitted with the 2446cc 2L-TE straight-four turbocharged diesel engine mated to an automatic gearbox with overdrive. ‘K611 XEL’ has 215,073 recorded kilometers at the time of consignment (equating to 133,640 miles) and has been in current ownership since 2009 with eight former UK keepers from new. Accompanied by an MOT certificate until January 2022 with no advisories.
