The Hyundai Stellar, designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro, was a mid-size rear-wheel drive car launched in 1983 to succeed the Ford Cortina. The car was based on the chassis from the MK V Cortina that Hyundai were building under license and the engine and transmission were licensed from Mitsubishi Motors. Engines available were 1.4 L and 1.6 L inline-fours until 1986, and a 2.0 L engine for 1987.
The Stellar's Ford genes and conventional design led many British observers to compare it with the then recently discontinued Cortina - where conservative buyers were scared off by the Sierra's radical styling, a fact played upon by Hyundai's advertising agency with print advertisements depicting a jelly mold shaped like the Sierra, above a picture of the Stellar.
It was sold in Britain from June 1984 until the arrival of the Lantra during 1991. It was the second Hyundai model to be imported to Europe, two years after the launch of the smaller Pony.
A very rare opportunity to acquire a Stellar is offered here, presented in red with brown cloth interior, E222 BMR was manufactured in 1988 and is offered with just 26,606 miles on the odometer. The vehicle was subject to an oil and filter service at the end of April 2021 and comes accompanied with an MOT certificate valid until 21 April 2022, as well as a small number of documents including some previous service documentation and MOT history.
Please note that the new owner will be required to apply for a V5 Document upon purchase of the vehicle and the wing mirror clip has broken which will require replacement.
