Reportedly supplied new to Australia in right-hand drive configuration, this charming Chevrolet was imported to the UK during 2009. Self-evidently the subject of past restoration work, the Tourer now has a careworn appearance but started readily and ran well during our recent photography session. Kept garaged as part of a small private collection, the vendor tells us that ‘BF 5211’ performed well on a 20-30 mile jaunt to celebrate Mother’s Day last year.
Model Background:
Subtly restyled for the 1928-model year, the Chevrolet National gained new, more rounded wings and a higher scuttle line. Based on a 107-inch wheelbase ladder-frame chassis equipped with all-round semi-elliptic leaf-sprung suspension and (for the first time on a Chevrolet) four-wheel drum brakes, it was powered by the marque's redoubtable 171ci (2.8 litre) OHV four-cylinder engine allied to three-speed manual transmission. Available in a variety of open and closed guises, the model boasted such niceties as a chassis lubrication system, indirectly lit instrument panel and thermostat.
