MOT: August 2021
Motor Car Location: Northamptonshire
Introduced in 1972 as flagship of the contemporary Mercedes-Benz range, the W116-series was equipped with all round independent suspension, disc brakes and power assisted steering. Engine sizes varied from a modest 2.8 litre straight-six to an extravagant 6.9 litre V8. Though, it could be argued that the long wheelbase 450 SEL model was the pick of the range. Reputedly capable of 130mph thanks to its potent 4520cc V8 unit, it was less nose-heavy / thirsty than the Wagnerian 6.9. The 450’s also received a plush interior, with velour or leather seats rather than the chequered cloth of the lower models.
This 450 SEL of the W116-series and is fitted with the 4520cc V8 engine mated to an automatic gearbox. Finished in Silver with Blue velour cloth interior, it has covered 92,670 miles from new over six former keepers, with the current owner having the vehicle since 2016. ‘PWR 428P’ received a full service and was subject to other refurbishing work in November that year, including electrical remediation, new tyres, rear suspension spheres, shocks, and suspension fluid all round, and more. The Mercedes has a small collection of past MOTs on file along with a MOT until August 2021 with no advisories. With working air-conditioning and cruise control, this is a scarce opportunity to purchase an early luxury Mercedes.
