The origins of the Laverda company go back to 1873 when Pietro Laverda started an agricultural machine business in Braganza in Northern Italy. Fast forward to 1949 when his grandson Francesco founded Moto Laverda S.A.S. Laverda became known for making small engined motorcycles of great quality. Over the next decades Laverda ventured into ever increasingly sized engines and through numerous road trials and racing successes became a favourite as classy and collectible motorcycle manufacturer.

Laverda scooters are almost unknown as the production of their Mini scooter was extremely limited. They are however innovative and typical of the Laverda quality. A 60cc 4 stroke 3 geared 3.5HP motor powered a delightful looking scooter and there are numerous clever engineered innovations all over the scooter. The seat and petrol tank cantilever action to gain access to the engine is genius. It is said that 2 Laverda engineers rode to England from Italy on 2 of these. It was pitched against the Triumph Tina but sadly sales did not materialise.

We present here possibly the only surviving Mini scooter in Pistachio ice cream colour and it is as Italian as it is possible to be. Our vendor bought it from his neighbour on the same street and he had owned it for over 50 years since 1968. Previous to that we can see on the original green log book 3 previous owners. The paintwork is original all over and we could see no touch ups except on the reg plate numbers. The tyres are the original 9 inch tyres which are still usable however a full set of brand new tyres are supplied with the lot. The fuel tank as been kept dry and looked clean and usable. However when we started the scooter we did use an external fuel supply but see no reason why the normal tank would not work fine. The seat is in astonishing original condition with the tassels looking good. We noted that there are screen brackets on the handlebars. There are delightful small details all over including the Laverda branded grips which are original and the original Laverda air tyre pumps. There are a number of common Italian components including CEV lights and switches. The badges are all present and original. The exhaust is the original one with a few well done repairs. The cable ends even still have the original cable tidy rubber and the tyres the old style valves. We were able to see the scooter functioning and the lights also all worked fine. Our vendor has recently shown the scooter at the NEC Classic motorbike show in 2021 and the Kick Back Custom show in 2018.

The scooter also comes with a number of spares including 3 x new tyres and specially made hand levers. There is also verification letter from the Laverda International Owners Club when the original number was retained. There are also copies of the operation and maintenance manual and a spare parts list.
