The cult of the cafe' racer that emerged during the 1960's continues to inspire people today with a plethora of "aftermarket" components being offered by various specialists to enable the enthusiast to build his or her own special. Although the Triton is regarded by many as being the archetypal cafe' racer wholly Norton based machines, ideally employing a 650SS power unit, have always had a loyal following that has, over the years, kept the Triton fraternity honest.
The example offered is one such taking a "Featherbed" frame and 650SS engine as a starting point. A large four leading shoe Ceriani front brake is laced to an alloy rim and housed in forks with exposed external springs. A short, blade type mudguard is fitted to the front end and complimented by a similar item at the rear, both finished in black. Clip-ons and rear-sets place the rider in the required position and a swept back exhaust with megaphone grace each side of the machine. The engine is fitted with twin Amal Concentric carburettors and a belt primary drive helps smooth out the power delivery. The large Manx type fuel tank is finished in the traditional Norton racing livery and is complimented by a central alloy oil tank. A humped racing saddle and half exposed springs on the rear dampers complete an attractive and nicely presented special.
