Lot details Registration No: NL 960 Chassis No: 1636 Mot Expiry: Exempt
This elegant Series E open drive limousine carries coachwork by The Burlington Carriage Company and in keeping with the company's early products was aimed at the upper echelons of the luxury market competing with Rolls-Royce, Napier and Daimler. Known as "Nellie", she features the OHV 6 cylinder engine and was originally registered to Sir Hubert Swinburne of Northumberland in c.1919/20. Remaining in the same family ownership until 2009, she was displayed at the Beamish Museum, County Durham during the 1980s where we understand she was restored to running order and repainted in her original maroon and black. Loaned for a time to renowned collector Eric St John Foti, she is believed one of the earliest surviving examples. With re-trimmed cloth passenger compartment featuring a division and front seats re-trimmed in brown leather "Nellie" was awarded the prestigious Coventry Cup at the 2012 ASOC National Weekend. MoT exempt, she is offered with Swansea V5, assorted MoTs and various correspondence, including the 2013 Club calendar upon which she graces the cover.
