H&H are indebted to the vendor for supplying the following description -
"This rug was given to my late Grandmother, Alice Matilda "Tilly" Smith of Mareham-le-Fen, Lincolnshire by her long term friend Lady Beryl Groves of Revesby Abbey at Revesby in Lincolnshire. Lady Beryl Groves was the widow of Richard Stanhope (KIA 1916) the son of the owner of Revesby Abbey, Earl Stanhope.
The rug was a coaching rug that was used by that family in their Daimler. When open cars were replaced by enclosed cars on the Revesby Estate it was redundant. So as she had always liked it, it was given by Lady Beryl, to my Grandmother for her car.
Size - 78" (198 cms) x 53" (135 cms) and the reverse is black cloth, with slight damage in places and one metal fixing ring.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
