  • Designed by Massimo Tamburini, the Ducati 916 is among the most influential machines of the last 25 years and is often described as 'the most beautiful bike ever made'
  • A two owner example that has covered just 3,043 miles, 'R135 LKH' has been displayed in a private collection for a number of years
  • Said to be in 'excellent overall' condition, it is supplied with a current V5C and will need a new battery and recommissioning before use

Ducati was established in 1926 by Antonnio Ducati and his sons, initially producing electrical components. After WW2 they moved into motorcycles with the Cucciola, essentially a pushbike with a clip-on engine. By the 60s they had become associated with performance bikes selling a range of sporty 250 and 350 singles. In response to the demand for larger capacity bikes chief engineer Fabio Taglioni designed the classic V Twin bevel drive engine first used in the 1971 GT750. This proved to be an immediate success, helped considerably by Paul Smarts win in the 1972 Imola 200 race. This started a tradition of race-winning V twins that have gone on to dominate World Superbike racing over the years. The launch of the Massimo Tamburini designed iconic 916 in 1994 revolutionized motorcycle styling and overnight made all of its competitors seem dated, going on to give Carl Fogarty his first Superbike world championship.

This two owners from new 916 has only done 3,043 miles and is presented in excellent original condition. When purchased by the vendor in September 2016 the cambelt was changed and the fuel tank was then drained and coated internally with Vaseline to minimise the risk of corrosion, as the sole purpose of him purchasing the 916 was not to ride it but just to admire its fantastic looks! The mileage then was 3043 as it still is today and the Ducati has been kept in a heated and dehumidified area and the engine has been turned over manually on a regular basis. The 916 is almost as new and completely standard and comes with two keys, a Datatag kit, four previous MOT’s, a service book, a handbook, a dealership book and a Certificate of Installation of a Thatcham approved security system. With a new battery and some recommissioning it’s ready for the road or just sit back and admire the looks of this fabulous machine.
