Armstrong Motorcycles were manufactured in Bolton, Lancashire between 1980 and 1987 following a tie up with the already established CCM Motorcyle Company and are famous for producing the MT500 military bike that was used by the British Army and NATO forces. CCMs background was in off road competition so a range of Motocross, Trials and Road Race bikes was developed at the same time culminating in Mike Eatoughs and Barry Harts carbon framed Grand Prix 350. The military contract was sold on to Harley Davidson in 1987 and CCM was returned to the Clews family who still make bikes to this day.
This 1983 Rotax engined 500cc enduro specification bike looks to be based on the MX500 motocrosser of the day and is road registered on a V5C. Its not clear if this is a factory produced model or a converted MX but it is equipped with lights and even a professionally fitted side stand. The frame is nickel coated, the front suspension is supplied by White Power and it is fitted with gold anodised Akront alloy rims. The carburettor is a Mikuni and the ignition box looks to be a Nippon Denso with levers etc. supplied by well known names such as Acerbis, Magura and Domino. The bike has not been run for a number of years so will need recommissioning but will make a very rare and interesting 1980s trail bike and comes supplied with a few spare parts and a current V5C
