A sympathetic update of its much-loved predecessor, the Land Rover Series II was introduced in April 1958. Available with a choice of 2.25-litre petrol or 2-litre diesel engines, the Series II accounted for some 62,000 sales in its first two years of production. In 1961, the subtly upgraded Series IIA benefited from an improved cooling system and is thought to have been the most successful variant, with sales around 1969/70 believed to have reached 60,000 units a year.
Supplied new via Groves of Northampton to local resident Mr D. E. Braybrook, ‘ABD 182J’ was acquired from the latter by the vendor in 1981. Displaying just 38,300 miles from new, a figure the vendor confirms to be correct, the Landie is equipped with the more desirable petrol engine. Offered with original owner’s instruction manual, V5 document, old MOTs, tool roll plus jack and said to be ‘very original’, the vendor currently considers the engine, transmission, bodywork, paintwork and interior trim all to be in `good' order.
