Registration No: F547 UVX
Chassis No: SAJJSAEW3BA156206
MOT: August 2023
Launched in August 1988, the XJR-S 5.3 was the first product of the newly formed JaguarSport (a 50/50 collaboration between Jaguar and Tom Walkinshaw's TWR group). Intended to capitalise on Jaguar's sixth Le Mans victory earlier that summer, not to mention its 1987 World Sportscar Championship title, the newcomer was visually distinguished from its lesser brethren by a drag-reducing body kit, Matt Black radiator grille and special 'Speedline' alloy wheels. Further benefiting from revised suspension (uprated front springs, modified rear radius arms, re-valved Bilstein shock absorbers etc) and more focused power-assisted steering, the flagship coupe proved a thoroughly rewarding drive. Utilising the same super smooth 5343cc SOHC engine and automatic transmission as a standard XJS V12, it was reputedly capable of 150mph. Wonderfully cocooning, the luxurious 2+2 interior was highlighted by a steering wheel and gearshift selector trimmed to match the upholstery. Initially available in Tungsten Grey only for the first 100 Le Mans celebration cars, the XJR-S 5.3 could be had in different liveries thereafter. However, it remained a strictly limited-edition model with total production between 1988 and 1990 reputedly amounting to just 326.
Manufactured in 1989, the XJR-S offered was supplied new through Follett Jaguar Ltd., Fulham Road, London, SW3, being delivered to the first keeper on the 18th of January that year. Finished in Solent Blue Metallic, along with a complementary Magnolia leather interior upholstery, the Jaguar has seven former keepers, with the previous owner exporting the XJR-S in 2008 to reside in his small private collection in Spain and remaining there for thirteen years. A new headlining is understood to have been fitted along with servicing whilst residing in Spain. Repatriated in April 2021 by the current owner, the Jaguar was subject to some recommissioning works following the long-term storage, which included electrical faults all corrected, exhaust gases leaks rectified, and four new premium tyres fitted (costing some £600).
Showing a recorded mileage of 99,099 miles, previous MOT records show that the speedometer appears to have failed a couple of years before being exported to Spain for long-term storage. The vendor informs that the V12 engine holds good oil pressure and there are no apparent fluid leaks, plus the automatic box provides smooth upward/downward gear changes. The windscreen wipers are intermittent, a replacement wiper motor has already been fitted and has not rectified the fault. Offered for sale with the original handbook and stamped service book (displaying eight entries, five from Jaguar main dealers), which are presented in the XJR-S leather book pack wallet. ‘F547 UVX’ is also accompanied by a selection of previous MOTs, a current MOT until August 2023 and a current V5C document, as well as a spares package containing new front, rear and handbrake pads; two rear brake discs; fuel filter; Jaguar head grille and bonnet badges; twelve new spark plugs; and the original wiper motor.
