1930 Velocette KSS MK1 Special

  • This machine was built and modified for grass track racing during the 1950s by Syd Endean of Chelsea and raced in Kent
  • It comprises a 1932 KSS MK1 engine fitted to a modified 1930 KTP frame, using Velocette rear shock absorbers, a 1928 MK1 rear wheel and later MK1 4-speed gearbox with external foot change.
  • The oil tanks is from a later Velocette, the front wheel and forks are Ariel parts, the seat is from a BSA, the fuel tank is a modified Honda part and the KTT racing exhaust pipe vents into an AJS silencer
  • The engine was overhauled with new valves, guides, camshaft, piston etc. The cams are the later small base circle type
  • The magneto was rewound by APL at Shaftesbury, all consumables, cables, etc were replaced. All tinware has been powder coated
  • The bike was running very well when put away and has been used on several club runs, including the Bob Foster, where it has won “Special of the Meeting” awards several times
  • All in all, it is quite a pleasant machine to ride and more comfortable than the rigid original
  • N.B. The appropriate engine lubrication priming procedure should be followed when next starting this machine, as it has been standing for a while. The oil ways characteristic of this model should be considered to be empty at this time.
