The Matchless G2, produced from 1958 to 1966, featured a 248cc OHV single-cylinder engine, weighed 330 pounds, achieved 66 miles per gallon, and could reach speeds of 70 mph. At a time when most manufacturers were transitioning to unit construction, AJS chose to retain a separate gearbox for this Matchless model. The G2 employed butterfly valve springs and an oil tank integrated into the engine case casting.
On offer at No Reserve, this Matchless G2 has been owned by the late vendor since 2003. During his 21 years of ownership he has carried out various mechanical work to keep it in running order until it was laid up due to other projects. The engine still turns over with compression. Requiring some degree of recommissioning before use, the machine is offered with a file containing receipts for parts and some old MOT certificates, along with a current V5C.
