Registration No: W271 EWL
Chassis No: 8D1N900385
MOT: August 2023
Following the success of Audi’s RS2 due to their collaboration with Porsche, Audi launched the B5 RS4 in 2000. This time Audi teamed up with Cosworth given they owned the engine specialists. Audi and Cosworth delivered a very special car and offering for the enthusiast. The Audi RS4 is the top tier and highest performing version of the Audi A4 range and a well-respected performance car amongst enthusiasts. It boasts wider front and rear wheel arches than the standard manufactured A4 variant to allow for the wider axle track on the RS4. Much-lauded at its launch, many believed it being an estate car merely added to the appeal. Utilising a 2.7-litre Bi-Turbo V6 which was pushing out 375bhp and 0-60mph in under five seconds when new and with Journalists stating they exceeded 170mph on the press drives. The RS4 is a functional, supremely competent piece of German automotive engineering, with modern-classic status with perhaps fewer than 300 left in the UK given that only 400 were manufactured in right hand drive for the UK originally.
First registered on the 18th of July 2000, this particular car was retained by Audi UK as its Press Demonstrator and one of the first cars to enter the UK. During its time with Audi, W271 EWL featured in several car publications, most notably in Evo Magazine, a copy of which accompanies the car. This RS4 is finished in a striking Avus Silver with the Black RS Recaro leather sports interior. Interestingly, these Avus Silver cars have a purple base coat, which is why the V5 states the primary colour for these cars as 'Purple' instead of 'Silver'. The current owner has fitted a different set of Recaro pole position seats with Avus Silver painted seat backs. These seats are installed using Audi B5 model specific Runners and can be swapped with ease without any damage to the cars originality. The owner has retained the original black leather Recaro seats which are in excellent condition having been stored in his garage, complete with fitted protective covers! From new the car has always been meticulously maintained, which is evidenced by the stamped service booklet and a sheaf of invoices in the full up A4 lever arch history file. The File includes email correspondence with Audi confirming W271 EWL as being one of their cars and that they checked their archives for any information on the car for the Vendor. Old MOTs and Tax discs are also presented in the folder. All major items of works have been completed to the highest standard by specialists, most recently, cam belt and water pump, new Clutch, flywheel, Bilstein B16 suspension and new rear suspension turrets, throttle body, full service, brake fluid change.
Described by the vendor as being in excellent condition mechanically given his approach to preventative and regular maintenance regardless of cost and his fanatical approach to cleaning to ensure cosmetically its one of the best you will see, this very special and beautifully presented RS4 comes with some additional exciting extras. Firstly, it still has the very rarely seen Pewter Scale Model which was presented to owners of the new cars upon delivery. Secondly, a full Press Introduction Kit released by Audi inclusive of 3 sets of negatives, glossy press photos & full Audi narrative on the car and the cars release complete with handwritten notes by Brian Laban who was a well respected auto Journalist. Thirdly, a previous owner during the early 2000’s employed the services of renowned Audi specialist QST in Haywards Heath, West Sussex to undertake sympathetic modifications. They included full MTM brake caliper and disc upgrade, full stainless steel Miltek exhaust system, and a custom remap to 430 bhp. The power is validated by a rolling road test and printout by QST in 2019 which is also in the history file. These modifications were in keeping with the time and have caused no issue to the cars reliability. The exceptional condition of this historically significant car, together with its Audi AG provenance and all the extras must surely put this at the top of any RS4 lover's wish list.
