Lot details

Registration No: TYD 809W
Chassis No: XKU10000727543
MOT: February 2024

  • A rare Mini 95 Pickup survivor
  • Fully restored some time ago and still in exceptional condition
  • Former museum exhibit and then entered into a private collection
  • Subject to much recent expenditure to maintain condition
  • Drives and handles as expected for a Mini

Introduced in January 1961, the Mini pickup was based around the same stretched platform as its panel van sibling. Similarly exempt from sales tax as a commercial vehicle, it sported a pressed steel grille, sliding windows and external door hinges throughout its twenty-one year production life. Initially powered by an 848cc four-cylinder, it could be specified with the more powerful 998cc engine from 1967 onwards (both A-series units being mated to the same four-speed manual transmission). Updated in late 1978 as the 'Mini 95' - its gross weight was 0.94 tons - the panel van was dropped from the range just four years later. Benefiting from a four-inch longer wheelbase, taller rear suspension turrets and underfloor fuel tanks, the Pickup / Panel Van derivatives were arguably even more fun to drive than their saloon equivalents.

Finished in Diamond White with a Black interior, this Austin Mini 95 Pickup was delivered new in November 1980. As most of these Pickups led hard lives when they were new, it is increasingly rare to find nice survivors. This car, ‘TYD 809W’, is one of those rare examples. Benefitting from a full restoration in the early 2000s, which we have been informed included a new subframe and virtually all of the attached components, this car was then part of a museum collection exhibit for some time before joining a private collection. The current owner acquired ‘TYD 809W’ in May 2020 and set about recommissioning the car. Invoices on file detail the work done, including a general service, a new exhaust, steering lock, water pump and indicator switch and maintenance on the brake system. Furthermore, the vendor commissioned a tailored cover for the load area, which is included in the sale. Currently showing approximately 90,270 miles, this Mini Pickup comes with two sets of keys, an original owner’s manual, a file of old MOTs dating back to 1989 together with invoices for work carried out while in the current ownership, as well as a new V5C. Still presenting very well indeed, on the way to the photo location ‘TYD 809W’ performed flawlessly and drove just like a properly sorted Mini should.

PLEASE NOTE: The car has been re-issued with its original registration number 'TYD 809W'. The registration number in the pictures is NOT included in the sale.
