The first Vespas designed by aeronautical engineer Corradino D'Ascanio were produced by Piaggio in Italy in 1946 and proved to be an immediate success, helping the country to get back on its feet after the devastation of WW2. The demand for the scooters was so strong that licensing agreements were signed with various companies around the world, with the Douglas motorcycle company becoming the UK partner. By the 1960s most Vespas sold in the UK were manufactured in Italy with the classic 152L2 becoming the best selling model.
This 1960 model was sold new by Motorettos of Deptford on the 23rd August 1960 and looks to have had only 4 owners, 2 possibly being husband and wife, before being bought by the vendors father in 1967. He used the Vespa up until August 1969 when it was put away in his shed and has stayed there ever since. It comes supplied with its original buff log book but does not appear to have been put on a computerised V5.
