Produced by Onyx Sports Cars Ltd, a UK kit car manufacturer, the Onyx Firecat was introduced in 1995 and was designed by David Golightly. Utilising Fiat Uno donor cars, all Firecats were front-wheel drive and could fit any of the Uno engines, including the 1.4 Turbo. It also had the option of using the Fiat Panda 750 or 1.6 TC Lancia engines. During its five-year production run, just 100 were thought to have been produced, making the Firecat a very rare kit car.
Supplied in kit form to the original builder in 1995, the Firecat offered was originally manufactured as a Fiat Uno and is fitted with an X1/9 1498cc straight-four overhead-cam engine (which was prepped by Avanti before fitting), allied to the five-speed manual transmission, the Onyx is finished in Red with Dark Grey cloth interior upholstery, as well as Black soft-top and tonneau cover. Completed by the original builder between 1995 and 1996, ‘D448 GEN’ was retained by the initial owner until being passed to his daughter in 2006. Retained in the original builder’s family for a further two years, the Onyx was purchased by the current owner in 2008.
Now showing a post-completion recorded mileage of just shy of c.68,000 miles, the Firecat has been used regularly by the vendor for daily use, events, and road runs. Featured in Kit Car International magazine on completion, the Firecat benefits from twin Webers, torsion beam rear axle, and Spax adjustable front suspension, ‘D448 GEN’ is accompanied by a large spares package as pictured. Offered for sale with a large history file which comprises original sales literature; a build manual; Uno owners handbook; a collection of MOTs going back to 2001; copy of the featuring magazine, and a current V5C document.
