The Lambretta Li Series 1 was launched in April 1958 and was a dramatic departure from the shaft driven LD range that had preceded it. The new enclosed chain-driven engine was centrally positioned under the frame and had more power than the LD. With larger 10 inch wheels and beautifully designed panel work, it was a superb scooter to ride and was instant hit. The Lambretta Li150 Series 2 was launched in October 1959 with the obvious difference being the position of the headlight on the handlebars. The Li Series 3 launched in December 1961 was a much slimmer version with increased fuel efficiency and sleek 60s looks. It was a very popular scooter.
This appears to be a well-restored scooter in full running condition and in a lovely colour with a myriad of attractive accessories. To restore and equip to the standard we see here would cost many thousands of pounds. The bare metal paint respray was done by highly regarded scooter painter Leon Bugbee and the high quality restoration was done by our vendor an experienced scooter restorer himself. The fastidious attention to detail is impressive as can be seen in the photographs. Nuts and bolts have been replaced with the originals restored and re-used wherever possible and the engine internals have been overhauled with uprated gears to match the new performance. The cables have been carefully replaced with correct nipple greasing points using correct aluminium cable straps. One only needs to look at the finishing of the cable ends and correct screws and beautifully fitting panels to know that this has been done to a particular standard. The engine top is an AF175 kit on a polished crank case and a with a beautiful SITO exhaust. The electrics are now on 12v. All of the chrome parts were chromed by Quality Chrome. All keys are present for steering lock and toolbox.
The extensive list of accessories includes original: Vigano horn cast embellisher, Vigano spare wheel disc, Radyot badge bar, metal blast hand grips and Ariete Gaiters. Many accessories from the 1980s include: Super style side panel embellishers, Stinger style rear light, foot board extensions, Ulma front badge, Metalplast style flyscreen, and whitewall tyres. The scooter won ‘Best Restoration’ at the 2021 Isle of Wight National Scooter Rally. It presents as an attractive and impressive scooter.
