The Lambretta Li Series 1 was properly launched in April 1958. Some 7 months after the TV175 series 1 was launched. By then, Innocenti had eliminated most of the engine problems that the 175 had. The Li150 was a dramatic departure from the shaft-driven LD range that had preceded it. The new enclosed chain-driven engine was centrally positioned under the frame and had more power than the LD. With larger 10-inch wheels and beautifully designed panel work it was a superb scooter to ride and was instant hit. The Lambretta Li150 Series 2 was launched in October 1959. Based on the successful Series 1, with the obvious difference was the position of the headlight on the handlebars for better lighting when cornering. It had an engine based on the Li150 Series 1 but with an increased stroke and several other small modifications all over the scooter that made it the best-selling Lambretta of all time.
The striking aspect of this classic Li150 Series 2 is the sheer quality of the restoration and the fastidious attention to detail. The vendor is a collector of Rimini Lambretta restorations and that is the bar that this scooter has been matched to with an eye for detail to the standard of his other scooters. The restoration was carried out by Neville Lewis former employee of Lambretta Concessionaires the official Lambretta dealer for Great Britain. The panels all appear to fit well and the original Lechler paint code for the model was used. The paint standard presents as excellent. Completely standard on 6v points, every component was restored and reused where possible. With a total rebuild of the scooter to exact original specification by one of the real experts in the field, ‘FRT’ rides, looks and feels like a new scooter, as confirmed by our consultant who was able to road test the scooter at the time of consignment. A restoration of this standard and magnitude done by such an expert would cost many thousands of pounds.
The Li150 Series 2 was the best-selling Lambretta of all time for a very good reason. With beautiful, elegant lines and a smooth reliable performance the model is the epitome of Lambretta. This is arguably one of the best standard restoration I have ever seen and in the pretty Light Blue colour. With the V5C it is ready to immediately enjoy on the road.
