Founded by managing director John Dolphin at the end of the Second World War, in 1946 the Corgi Motorcycle Company was formed to develop a civilian version of his 98cc Welbike, which had been designed at The Frythe, in Hertfordshire to be dropped by parachute to support airborne troops. Brockhouse Engineering of Southport built the MkIII Corgi scooters, powered by an Excelsior Autocycle engine under license.
Manufactured in 1953, this folding Corgi presents in Black with a Red tank and mudguards, the Brockhouse has been in current (late) ownership for approximately ten years and has been used as a static exhibit at car shows and steam rallies, being transported in the rear of a Morris Isis Traveller. Having not been run for a number of years, the Corgi will require full recommissioning before use but will make a great fun little machine once completed. Accompanied by an owner’s manual and some sundry paperwork, intended purchasers should note that the new owner will need to apply for a new registration document.
