Introduced in 1947, the AC 2-Litre enjoyed a nine-year production life during which some 1,284 were made. The vast majority were Saloons (two- and four-door) but the model could also be had in Drophead Coupe and Buckland sports tourer guises. The Thames Ditton company had enjoyed a degree of competition success during the 1930s and many of the lessons learnt were transferred to the 2-Litre. Based around a ladder frame chassis equipped with all-round semi-elliptic suspension, hydraulic dampers (a marque first) and four-wheel drum brakes, the newcomer was praised by the contemporary motoring press for its 80mph top speed, handling and steering feel. Designed by John Weller in 1919, its 1991cc OHC engine would remain an AC staple until 1963. Fed by triple SU carburettors and developing 74bhp @ 4,500rpm, the straight-six was allied to four-speed manual transmission. Bodied in aluminium over ash, the 2-Litre was an elegant 4/5-seater with a coach-built feel.
