Introduced at the 1936 Berlin Motor Show, the Mercedes-Benz 170V proved an instant success (with some 13,000 units being manufactured at its Unterurkheim plant in the first year alone). Based around an oval section tubular chassis frame, it was equipped with all round independent suspension (transverse-leaf front, swing axle rear) and hydraulic drum brakes. Powered by a 1697cc sidevalve four-cylinder engine developing some 38bhp and 74lbft or torque, its four-speed manual gearbox was available with full synchromesh from 1940 onwards. A singularly versatile design (it could be had in saloon, coupe, van, cabriolet and woody versions) it was an obvious candidate for revival in the aftermath of World War Two. Updated in May 1950 with a larger 1767cc (45bhp, 79lbft) unit, wider track, telescopic shock absorbers and stronger brakes, the W136 remained in production until 1953.
PLEASE NOTE: We believe the original front wings are available as photographed for collection from the vendor upon the successful sale
