  • 1 of just 3,003 TA examples manufactured

The first of the famous MG T-series line, the TA was introduced in 1936. Larger, faster and more comfortable than its PB predecessor, the newcomer was powered by an MPJG 1292cc OHV engine that developed some 50bhp @ 4,800rpm. Allied to four-speed manual transmission, it endowed the two-seater with a nigh-on 80mph top speed. Traditionalists may have decried the adoption of a less exotic powerplant, insulating rubber engine mounts and - after a while - synchromesh on 3rd and 4th gears but the TA had accounted for 3,003 sales by the time production ceased in 1939.

Manufactured new in 1936 with a build date of 15th of June according to the T-Register, chassis number TA/1509 has been fitted with a factory BMC replacement engine. Acquired by the late owner in 1993 to accompany an MG TC that he had owned since the 1960s, the restoration has been slowly progressed over the following thirty years. Stripped down to a bare chassis with the chassis refurbished, the wood frame was completely replaced, and the bodywork partially fitted. The engine and gearbox are believed to have received overhauls, but sadly, the vendor passed away before the restoration could be completed. Offered therefore as a partially completed restoration project, the TA will make a very rewarding project for someone to get back on the road. Accompanied by registration documents, a dating letter from the T-Register, and invoices for parts purchased over the course of the project.
