The Mustang versus Camaro rivalry has been raging since the 1960s with both models amassing a legion of loyal fans. Introduced in 2009, the fifth generation Camaro featured stylistic echoes of its 1969 forebear (notably the grille, roof line, quarter windows and side trim) but was underpinned by a brand new platform. Engineered by Holden who had responsibility for all GM’s rear-wheel drive designs, the latter was equipped with all-round independent suspension (McPherson strut front / four-link rear), four-wheel disc brakes and power assisted steering. Available in Coupe and Convertible guises, the muscular-looking Chevy could be had with a choice of V6 or V8 engines (ranging in size from 3.6 – 7.0 litres) allied to manual or automatic transmission. In production from March 2009 – November 2015, the fifth generation Camaro found fame on the big screen thanks to its role as ‘Bumblebee’ in the Transformers franchise.
Dating from the 2010 model year, chassis 2G1FK1EJ7A9185224 was built to a high specification including Inferno Orange Metallic paintwork, leather upholstery (2SS), L99 6.2-litre V8 (400bhp / 410lbft of torque), automatic transmission, limited slip differential, performance suspension, Brembo brakes and 21-inch wheels. A desirable SS model, its interior is understood to have been uprated with quilted transmission tunnel sides and quilted floor mats to complement the two-tone seats prior to being imported to the UK in 2023. Thoroughly enjoyed by the vendor since its acquisition last year, ‘DL59 GRX’ started readily and ran well during our recent photography session. The V8 engine is said to emit a pleasing rumble, while the automatic gearbox shifted smoothly. Representing an inexpensive entry to American muscle car ownership, this eye-catching Camaro is offered for sale with a current MOT certificate valid until July 2025.
