The Rolls-Royce marque has long been the benchmark of automobile for which many aspired to. The Silver Wraith II is an extended wheelbase version of the popular Silver Shadow II and it was named in honour of the first post-war Rolls-Royce. The Silver Wraith was further distinguished from its shorter wheelbase stablemate by the fitting of the Corniche/Camargue pattern wheel trims. Changes to the Silver Shadow that carried over to this more upscale model included the addition of rack-and-pinion steering, plus significant improvements to the front suspension that also helped improve the handling and overall performance. These changes ushered in more modern standards that were already available on selected competitors in this fashionable field of vehicles. The larger Silver Wraith was considered the top of the range for Rolls-Royce in this period and stands apart due to its Everflex covered roof and small rear window. Increasingly sought after by interested collectors, only 2,136 Silver Wraiths were manufactured by the time production ended in October of 1980.
From the V5C provided, it is understood that chassis 38557 was first registered as 'LDB 27V' on the 19th November 1979, ordered in the delightful colour combination of Le Mans Blue over a Blue Leather interior. Little is known of the history of this car prior to the vendor's ownership, however it is understood that the car was last used in around 2018 when the car was laid up until this year in dry barn storage. Unfortunately, time has not been so kind to this rare long wheelbased Rolls and it is now in need of some level of restoration to return the car to the road. The vendor has explained that the engine is non-running at present however is understood to be complete and turning and the bodywork has quite a number of rust patches, particularly around the valances, arches and the sills which will all require attention. The interior however is in less of a poor state and although the woodwork will need revarnishing / lacquering, the original blue leather seats and carpets are all intact and appear supple. In summary, this would present as a rewarding project to the prospective purchaser and is on offer at No Reserve by the vendor.
