The Sears company of America was a very large chain of department stores and carried a full range of household goods, clothing, hardware and more, in fact just about anything could be bought at Sears. It also ran a successful mail order catalogue from which you could also buy just about anything. In the range Sears also dabbled in motor vehicles and one of these was the Italian Vespa which was sold via Sears as the Allstate from 1952 after an initial trial. Sales went well and subsequently as Vespas changed models Sears carried on selling them through until 1967 usually a couple of years behind the new Italian releases. By the early 1960s in terms of body design there were virtually no differences between the standard Vespa and the Allstate Vespas. One critical difference was that the Allstate did not have a damper on the front fork. They were sold with a single saddle and buddy seat. From 1958 the Allstates were sold with a speedometer in MPH. The later models were only offered in red but with unique white wheels and hubs and were based on the Italian VNB range but with there own unique chassis number prefix VA14T. The engines were standard VNB motors with the same prefix as the Italian models.
This Allstate appears to have been imported in 2017. It has a very original appearance and we are informed is still completely standard except that the ignition and electrics have been upgraded to 12V. It has been through the workshop of Retrospective Scoters in London and has had a full mechanical refurbishment using original or correct parts. The engine has been rebuilt, the wiring loom replaced and cables throughout have been renewed. It also has a new stand. The scooter is supplied with full keys for steering lock and the toolbox. We were able to see the scooter working extremely well at the time of consignment which is not surprising given that it has just been refurbished by one of the most renowned scooter garages in the UK. With V5C this Allstate is ready to be immediately enjoyed on the road.
