The first Jaguar XJ was launched in 1968 and the XJ designation has been used for successive Jaguar flagship models ever since. The original model was the last Jaguar saloon to have had the input of Sir William Lyons, the company's founder. The Jaguar XJ (X300) was manufactured between 1994 and 1997 and was the first XJ produced entirely under Ford ownership and can be considered an evolution of the outgoing XJ40 generation. Like all previous XJ generations, it features the Jaguar independent rear suspension arrangement with the design emphasis on improved build quality, improved reliability and a return to traditional Jaguar styling elements. The X300 was stylistically intended to evoke the image of the more curvaceous series XJ. The front of the car was redesigned significantly to return to four individual round headlamps that provided definition to the sculptured bonnet. Mechanically, it was similar to the XJ40 that it replaced. Six-cylinder X300s are powered by the AJ16 inline-six engine which is a further enhancement of the AJ6 engine that uses an electronic distributor-less ignition system.
First registered on 30 June 1997 and presented in the appealing combination of Anthracite Pearl with contrasting Cream leather interior, this XJ6 Executive features including Air Conditioning and Leather seats which are otherwise optional extras on standard models and was purchased by the vendor through H&H Classics in July 2015. Since its purchase, the car has been well-maintained, always garaged and serviced each year almost exclusively by the same local garage in south Northamptonshire, with the most recent on 26 June 2022, along with an air con regas at £290.27. ‘P659 PWC’ also recently benefited from the headlining being re-trimmed in June of this year, as well as a replacement Bosch battery in May.
Now with under 48,000 warranted miles on the odometer and 3 former keepers on the V5C document, this XJ6 comes accompanied with an impressive history file, the original bookpack and two sets of keys. Included in the file are MOT certificates every year from 2001 to 2022, apart from 2013 and 2014 when it appears the car was off road, and invoices for servicing work carried out at the time of the MOT. The MOT advisory in years 2016-2020 and 2022 relates to surface rust on the front springs. The rust was minimal in 2016 and continues to be so. When the car was serviced by a Jaguar specialist in Banbury in 2021 and sent for a MOT at a local test centre, no advisories were recorded.
From looking through the history file, it is clear that for the majority of its life, this vehicle has been looked after by almost exclusively main dealers and two separate local garages. The vendor rates the overall condition of the car as 'Very Good'.
