Right here in London's Olympia, on their 1931 Motor Show stand, the Hillman Motor Company of Coventry launched what was to become their best known motor car, the Hillman Minx with 30bhp side-valve engine and Bendix brakes.
According to the Berkshire entrant, this prewar Hillman Minx was sold new in 1932 to a Miss M Brodie by the Angus Garage and, after three years or so, returned there to be used by them until they were taken over by Lex Mead in 1991. Shortly afterwards, the Coventry-made saloon was acquired at auction for £9000 by J Watson, in whose hands the car was substantially rebuilt, earning its keep doing film and TV work.
The bodywork is said still to be in good condition as are both black paintwork and red interior. The 1124cc 4-cylinder engine has been rebuilt and the 3-speed manual gearbox and transmission are reportedly also in good order. The vendor is hopeful that a new MOT Test Certificate will have been secured before the sale and potential purchasers should check this out with the documents desk.
PLEASE NOTE: We apologise for the incorrect naming of the car in the catalogue. It is of course a Minx as stated above.
