Lot details

Chassis No: 104/2087
Mot Expiry: March 2014

The Eric Neale-penned, 'slant-eyed' C-V8 replaced the visually similar 541 in October 1962. The MKII version followed just a year later, boasting yet more performance courtesy of Chrysler's legendary 330bhp 6.3-litre V8. It also featured a range of changes to the bodywork and the addition of Selectaride four-way adjustable rear dampers. The 30cwt C-V8 was one of the fastest four-seaters of its era, and could waft its occupants to 60mph in 6.7 seconds and on to a top speed of over 135mph.
'BFW 126B' was supplied new by Charles Follett to Scott-Thompson & Co., following which it was adopted by a member of the Scott-Thompson family for a while. This imposing C-V8 has subsequently benefited from two restorations. The first was in 1973, while the latter occurred in 2011 after 20 years of storage and reputedly cost £30,000. Among other things: the chassis side members were replaced; an uprated alternator, radiator, starter motor and twin cooling fans were fitted (the then owner had planned to take the car to South Africa); the engine was fully overhauled and converted to run on lead-free fuel, and the exhaust system replaced; the body was resprayed in the original colour of Blue and the original leather trim restored to its former glory; a replacement Webasto sunroof and new headlining were installed; the bumpers were rechromed. The battery is relatively new and features a cut-off switch. The Pirelli 4000 tyres are also a recent fit and the boot contains the original jack and wheelbrace. The big Jensen retains its Armstrong Selectaride dampers and comes complete with a sizeable history file that includes numerous bills, items of correspondence and the original logbook. An attractive example of this relatively rare and increasingly sought after model.
