Introduced in October 1983, the Jaguar XJ-S 3.6 was intended to be a sharper, more sporting foil to the range's established, soporific 5.3-litre V12 model. To emphasise the difference, it was fitted with a five-speed manual Getrag gearbox as standard. With some 225bhp and 240lbft of torque on tap courtesy of its 3590cc DOHC 24 valve straight-six, the claimed 140mph top speed and 0-60mph time of 7.4 seconds were a near match for the V12. Yet when such performance was not called upon, it could reputedly return thirty miles per gallon, a feat beyond the V12's capabilities. A revised, more positive feel to the power steering improved the handling still further.
This XJS was manufactured in 1990 and was registered new in the United Kingdom on the 1st of January 1990 being supplied new by Reeve & Stedeford Jaguar in Solihull. Fitted with the 3590cc 24-valve straight-six engine mated the four-speed automatic gearbox. Finished in Regency Red metallic paintwork with Doeskin leather and Red piping interior upholstery, ‘G616 XDU’ has covered a total of just 70,958 miles from new (at time of consignment) and has just five former keepers through its lifetime.
Offered with the original book pack comprising the Service Manual, Owners Handbook, Service Book, Extended Guarantee Guide, Sales & Service International Book, Sound System Operation Guide and European Assistance Guide, all presented in its Jaguar wallet. The XJS’s service book displays twelve main dealer service stamps accounting for the period until ‘G616 XDU’ entered storage in 1997. Recommissioned in 2017, the XJS entered current ownership in 2018 and has resided in said private collection since. Subject to a full service, new fan belts and new front and rear brake pads in 2018, ‘G616 XDU’ has further benefitted from front shock absorbers in 2021. Offered with a current V5C and an MOT certificate until March 2022.
PLEASE NOTE: This lot is now offered without reserve.
