Launched in 1958, Rover's elegant P5 Series was initially powered by the 3.0-litre straight-six engine of the P4 saloon - its stable-mate until the introduction of the all-new P6 in 1964. Designed by David Bache, the luxuriously-equipped `3-Litre' featured independent front suspension using wishbones and torsion bars and a live axle at the rear mounted on semi-elliptic leaf springs. An early modification to this heavy car was the replacement of the 11in front drum brakes with a disc system. The MKII version offered more power and the option of a striking Coupe body - an imperious-looking motorcar that still cuts quite a dash. A manual gearbox MKII Coupe, `DRL 290C' sports Dark Blue paintwork complemented by Pale Blue hide trim, and currently registers an unwarranted 32,294 miles. It is being offered complete with seat belts, grille-mounted RAC badge, V5C and a couple of old MOTs from 2011 to 2013.
PLEASE NOTE: The 3.0 litre OISE straight-six engine initially fitted to the P5 was a development of the one used by its P4 stablemate (the production runs of the two models over-lapped). However, the largest engine fitted to a P4 displaced 2.6 litres.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
