Puch was an extremely long established motorcycle manufacturer, in fact Austria's oldest, and one that took real advantage of the scooter boom which began in the late fifties and was no more avidly followed anywhere than in Great Britain. Some scooters were little more than poor mopeds, most scooters were little better than good mopeds and then there was another level of machines, mainly of Germanic origin, that were nearly as good as proper motorbikes. Not always as appealing to non-motorcyclists as the fashionable Italian designs from Lambretta and Vespa, but many were well engineered, solid models with good brakes, steering and handling.
The Puch Alpine was one of these and the one for sale today is a 1961 model, by which time it had received a 150cc 5hp engine with 3 speed left hand grip gear change and had substantially constructed and damped front suspension, unusual for the time. A 250 cc engine option was considered necessary by riders but unfortunately was never introduced. PHM 29 has matching frame and engine numbers, buff log book, rear carrier, twin seat, looks to have its probably irreplaceable original trim and accessories and is striking in blue livery and contrasting wheels. It is said by the owner to 'run well' and be 'all ok'. Not to be missed by the scooter afficionado.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
