The sleek super-formed aluminium body of the DB9 was initially designed by Ian Callum but had also had significant influence from the next director of AM design, Hendrik Fisker. It was powered by a third-generation version of the now familiar 6.0 litre, V12 engine with a top speed of 186mph. The DB9 was the first of what was to become a long line of production Aston Martins to use VH architecture; using super-formed parts in the chassis and footwell as well as the body panels. Individual die-cast, extruded or stamped aluminium elements of the VH platform, are bonded with strong adhesives and self-piercing rivets, providing a lightweight but stiff ‘backbone’. The DB9 body shell weighed 25% less than that of the DB7 but has double its torsional rigidity. This process also allowed Aston Martin to retain high levels of engineering accuracy in producing a car at a higher volume, ensuring chassis performance to match the engine power. Aston Martins have always made the interior of their cars to be very special places. The fine detail of finishing is typified by the starter button made of glass and sand-etched with the Aston Martin wings logo.
Finished in Onyx Black with Parchment Stitched Obsidian Leather and Piano Black veneers ‘AE56 FZY' has covered 71,100 miles and has had just 3 former private keepers. Noted by its late registration in 2006, this example is a 2007 Model Year variant, and features upgrades that enhance both performance and comfort. Factory-fitted with sought-after features such as Bluetooth, satellite navigation, cruise control, heated front windscreen and climate control. The service history is documented in the original Aston Martin Service Book, showcasing ten services performed by the likes of Lancaster Aston Martin Cambridge and subsequent maintenance by HR Owen Aston Martin. Noteworthy maintenance includes the replacement of suspension top mounts in June 2022 and a new radiator installation in June 2023.
