1979 Ford Capri 2.0 GL
A Low Mileage and Ownership Example

Estimated at £12,000 - £14,000

Lot details

Registration No: ATH 123V
Chassis No: GAECWL148420
MOT: Exempt

  • Just five owners from new (two from the same family)
  • Only 49,131 miles from new (atoc)
  • Retained in first family ownership until 2005
  • Comprehensively restored between 2019 and 2020
  • An early Mk.III example

The Capri Mk.III was referred to internally as 'Project Carla', and although it was little more than an update of the Capri Mk.II, it was often referred to as the Mk.III. The first cars were available in March 1978, and sold very well initially. The new styling cues included the black 'Aeroflow' grille and the 'sawtooth' rear lamp lenses, these echoed the new design language being introduced at that time. In addition, the Mk.III featured improved aerodynamics, leading to improved performance and economy over the Mk.II and the trademark quad headlamps were introduced. The bonnet's leading edge was pulled down over the top of the headlamps, making the appearance more aggressive.

Manufactured in 1979, this Capri was supplied new to the United Kingdom and first registered on the 1st of August 1979. Fitted with the 2.0-litre straight-four Pinto engine with a four-speed manual gearbox, this example is finished in Red with a Black cloth interior upholstery. Having covered just 49,131 miles from new (at time of consignment), the Capri was retained in its first family ownership (two keepers) until 2005, by which stage the car had been laid up for a period of time. Passing through two subsequent keepers requiring restoration before entering current ownership in 2019, ‘ATH 123V’ received a comprehensive renovation which was completed in 2020.
