Early production 64 1/2 D code Mustang Coupe. The D code stands for the 4 barrel optional 289 engine and it was the largest most powerful that Ford offered for the early production Mustangs. Early production Mustangs or 1964 1/2 cars were built between early March and July 31st 1964, this is one of the earliest Mustangs still on the road built in Michigan during March 1964 shipped to California and purchased to special order through a San Jose Ford Dealership.

The Mustang was delivered from the Ford Michigan Factory to California during April 1964 and purchased to special order through a San Jose Ford dealership by a lady to celebrate her 65th birthday. Her husband was a drag racer and that is why they specified the performance option, the 289 V8 4 barrel Carburettor. She later retired to Northern California near Santa Rosa and the car remained in her ownership for the next 25 years. The car was then purchased by the garage owner who had previously serviced the Mustang. He also happens to be a car racer and he stored the Mustang for several years in his facility hoping his daughter would eventually take on ownership, but she subsequently passed on the pony which was then sold on eBay to a new owner back east in Chicago Illinois. After two years he traded the vehicle to a dealer in Chicago, who brokered an exchange with a classic car dealer in Connecticut New England. The car was then purchased by the current owner in July 2012 which was later shipped from Port Elizabeth New Jersey, one week before the storm that devastated the area to the Port of Liverpool UK.

The Mustang underwent a bare metal respray in the original Ford Vintage Metallic Burgundy paint supplied by the Anglo Dutch Paint Company. The car is fitted with inertia reel seatbelts factory A/C and Rally PAC (this package included a tach and clock in a 2 pod mount on the steering column) and radio The centre console shifts C4 auto transmission with 14'' Magnum wheels and P235/60 tyres. The client tells us that the car has always been in dry storage with zero rust and the underside as factory finish is painted in flat black hammerite not under seal. All the body panels are straight and original with factory finish shut lines. The last Ministry of Transport Test MOT the Vehicle passed with no advisories.
