Established in Sheffield, UK by Thomas Humber, the marque bearing his surname progressed from bicycles to its first motorcar in 1898. Its earliest production models were manufactured in Coventry and then in Beeston near Nottingham. Always a maker of luxury-class cars, Humber acquired Hillman in 1928 and soon after, Humber was in turn acquired by Rootes. Renowned for offering big-car style and sophisticated engineering with remarkably strong value for the money, Humber enjoyed particular success with its Snipe 80 of 1930-35. Understood to be 1 of just 6 known to survive ‘TJ9421’ is finished in Burgundy with Black wings and has been subject to an extensive restoration which included a new interior trim, repaint and re-chroming in c.2016. More recently subject to a new clutch, attention being paid to the braking and cooling system with an electric water pump and fan the Snipe is offered with a large collection of invoices, instruction and service manuals, technical information and old MOT certificates dating back to 1963.
