Sold for £19,125

Lot details
Registration No: MAR352C
Chassis No: C-A2S7766967
Mot Expiry: None

This historic rally car is one of two campaigned in the mid-1980s by Classic Cars magazine journalist, Jeremy Coulter and which helped him to outright victory in the European Historic Rally Championship. In recent years 'MAR 352C' has been maintained by Mervyn Johnston ('Mr Mini') and was campaigned in the Irish Historic Rally Championship between 1989 and 1993, obtaining several outright wins. The vendor informs us that it's equipped with a full Safety Devices roll cage and door bars and an LSD. He rates the bodywork and 1293cc engine as "excellent", the Almond Green paintwork and four-speed gearbox as "very good" and the rally-style interior trim as "good". The Mini will have a new MOT by the time of the sale.

PLEASE NOTE: Although this Mini was campaigned by Jeremy Coulter during the mid-1980s, it was no longer in his possession when he won the European Historic Rally Championship in 1991. Indeed by then 'MAR 352C' was contesting the Irish Historic Rally Championship (1989-1993) achieving several outright wins along the way.

PLEASE NOTE: Since the catalogue went to press the Mini Cooper Register have kindly informed us that this lot's chassis number relates to an Austin Cooper S which was built in September 1965 or thereabouts. The lot's engine number is also in keeping with a 1275 Cooper S unit of the same age. The Mini appears to have been re-shelled at some stage because its FE number would indicate that the current shell dates from April 1966. The car was first registered for road use on November 8th 1965 and wears reproduction chassis and engine number plates.

PLEASE NOTE: The vendor tells us that `MAR 352C' retired from the Circuit of Ireland, Donegal and Ulster rallies during 1991 but once sorted showed well in several local special stage rallies as well as navigation rallies. Thereafter, the Mini achieved several podium finishes and class wins during 1992 and 1993 on the Galway, Circuit of Ireland, Donegal and Cork rallies.
