The handsome DB7 was built during Ford's tenure of the iconic British sports car manufacturer, and revived the nomenclature of the much vaunted and now highly collectable David Brown Astons of the '50s and '60s. The model was launched at the Geneva motorshow of 1993 and, as Ford also owned Jaguar at the time, based on a modified XJS platform. Though the memorable styling owed much to the stillborn Jaguar F-Type, the final look was crafted by in-house designer Ian Callum. Power came from a supercharged, Jaguar-derived straight six unit of 3.2-litres capacity. The cars were built at a new factory at Bloxham near Banbury that had previously produced the Jaguar XJ220 and the engineering was sub-contracted to Tom Walkinshaw Racing. The body was pressed steel clad with moulded plastic panels. The luxurious interior was dominated by Connolly hide and walnut. Some 7,000 DB7s were manufactured between 1994 and 2003 - by far the most of any Aston model to date. It was eventually superseded by the DB9. The example for sale is a 1995 right-hand drive Coupe with automatic transmission. The car sports green coachwork complemented by a cream and green leather interior. Used daily until recently, reportedly all its services were carried out by Aston Martin bar the last two, which were done by an independent specialist. The air-conditioning unit was overhauled in 2007 and new front wings were fitted in 2008. The vendor describes the car as being in "very good" condition with regard to its engine, automatic transmission, electrical equipment, interior trim, bodywork and paintwork. The coupe is MOT'd until March 2010 and shows some 55,000 miles to its odometer. The charismatic DB7 is the car that helped transform Aston Martin from a low volume maker of specialist sports cars into a serious rival to the likes of Ferrari and Porsche. While today's Astons are well beyond the pocket of the majority of enthusiasts, DB7s can now be purchased for the same money as a new Ford or Vauxhall saloon, bringing Aston ownership within reach of a whole new generation of drivers. In terms of style per pound, they are now hard to beat.
